RMCA Homeschool Support Program for Grades K-12

The RMCA Homeschool Program is now enrolling all Colorado home educated students grades K - 12 for the 2017-2018 school year
(last day of enrollment is October 1, 2017)

PROGRAM DATES: August 10, 2017 to May 7, 2018
 
SCHEDULE: 8:00 – 3:00 pm   Monday – Friday (Mondays are a nut free day)
 
CLASSES FOR GRADES K-6: offered Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday
CLASSES FOR GRADES K-3: offered Thursday
CLASSES FOR GRADES 7-8: offered on Friday
CLASSES FOR GRADES 9-12: offered on Thursday (space is limited)
CLASSES FOR GRADE 9-12: offered on Friday (space is limited)
 
We are excited to invite all home educators, regardless of district of residence, to join our program this coming fall! For K-8 students we offer a one-day a week fun, academic and content rich program that works in partnership and compliments the goals of home schooling families. High school students attend one or two days, depending on the number of courses taken, with a minimum of four courses required.
 
NOTE:  Families may only enroll in ONE publically funded program in Colorado per year
Students must be five by 9/15/2017 for kindergarten and have the independent skills needed to attend an all-day program, and six by 10/1/2017 for first grade.
 
K-8 CLASSES: We offer interactive, hands-on learning experiences for K-8. Each day includes: 
K-8 Monthly character trait
K-8 Language Arts (writing, novel studies and research papers for 3rd-8th)
K-8 Hands-on science, including dissection for 2nd-8th   
K-8 Critical thinking skills (includes study and math skills)
K-8 Skills based PE and team sports (for 7th/8th) (Students may also join the sports teams at full time RMCA.)
K-8 Core Knowledge Art (systematic study of artists, techniques and art projects)
K-5 Music and performances (Students may also participate in band, etc., at full time RMCA)
K-6:  Lego education
4th Grade:  Colorado history hands-on projects
6th Grade:  Roman/Greek times themed projects, Challenger Space Mission
7th Grade:  Medieval times themed projects, entrepreneur class, Shakespeare
8th Grade:  Computer class (Word, Powerpoint, etc.), Speech
 
9-12 CLASSES:  Our high school program is designed to provide an atmosphere that fosters growth in maturity, a strong foundation of character and an opportunity to develop the necessary study and personal habits needed to be successful in the future.  After the foundation is built our program becomes a stepping stone to other options that your high school student may pursue such as concurrent enrollment, CLEP testing, etc., to complete their transcript.  We have an active Student Council with monthly social activities.
 
ENGLISH AND COMPOSITION:  American Composition and Literature, World Composition and Literature, English 11/12 Writing and Rhetoric
 
HISTORY/SOCIAL STUDIES:  American History, World History, World Geography, Government (one semester) and Economics (semester).
 
MATH:  Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Advanced Math/Pre-Calculus (math placement test required for all levels)
 
SCIENCE:  Forensic Science, Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, Chemistry
 
ELECTIVES:  Exercise Science/Personal Fitness, Speech and Communication, Personal Finance and Leadership I and II (for Student Council members only - required).
 
CURRICULUM/SUPPLIES FEES K-8: Curriculum is available to borrow for home use. A $10 classroom supplies fee per student and two reams of white 8 ½ x 11 copy paper per family covers all materials for the year, with a maximum fee per family of $40.

STANDARDIZED TESTING: ITBS testing provided free of charge for grades 3, 5, 7, 9 and 11, PSAT testing for students enrolled in grades 8 -11.
 
UNIFORMS: All RMCA students wear uniforms in compliance with Board policy. RMCA uniform policy.  High school students wear a polo shirt and jeans.
