PTO Board Committee Descriptions
Back to School Night: This position recently has become Student Prep Day. This position is in charge of organizing the various committee chairs that are going to present at Student Prep Day.
Book Fairs: There are two book fairs scheduled for this year. The book fairs are held in our school library. Profits from these fairs go to support our library. Volunteers are also needed! The first book fair is September 8 - September 17. The second book fair will be held February 2-February 11.
Box Tops: RMCA PTO collects a variety of Labels. Currently, the money received from labels is used to purchase resources for the library and classrooms.
Bulletin Board: This position works monthly to update the PTO Bulletin Board.
Club Kid Force: This club is for any elementary student who has or had a parent(s) serving in the armed forces. We will get together throughout the year for potlucks, skating, armed forces holidays or support during deployment. We are looking forward to another fun year. LaChon Smith or Bobbi Falkenberg
Community Projects: This committee is in charge of providing community service opportunities for our families. Current projects include Cell phones for Soldiers, donating and collecting Valentine’s Day cards for the Pediatric Cancer Ward at Memorial Hospital, collecting Pop Tabs for the Ronald McDonald House and conducting various book and coats drives.
Donations: Collects donations from local businesses in order to use for Reading Rewards, Student Achievement and Family Fun Nights.
Donuts with Dad and Muffins with Mom: This is our newest program! Each year, students will be able to have a FREE breakfast with their dad (or male role model) or mom (or female role model).
Family Fun Nights: Let's have some fun! Each month we will be putting together a night or afternoon of fun events that your entire family can come to enjoy. There will be food, games, entertainment, crafts, hunts, and lots of fun. So please watch the PTO calendar for dates, times and events that are coming your way. Festival of Lights Parade: This committee designs and creates RMCA’s parade float that will be used in the Festival of Lights Parade and enjoyed by 200,000!
Fundraising: This provides the source of the PTO’s money. By participating, parents are helping the PTO to support our teachers by sending them to conferences, providing them with gift cards to assist with classroom needs, and funding various PTO committees to help serve our parents, students and community.
Giving Tree: This tree will be covered with “apples” that list our teachers’ needs for their classrooms. Parents will receive two hours of volunteer time for providing the item listed on the apple to that teacher.
Grade K Representative: Acts as a liaison between the PTO and the parents and teachers in grade K.
Grade 1 Representative: Acts as a liaison between the PTO and the parents and teachers in grade 1. Welcome to all the families of first graders! My name is Adrienne Schipfer and I am excited to be your PTO grade rep. There are many ways to get involved to support RMCA’s students, teachers, and families. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns. I am looking forward to working with you this year.
Grade 2 Representative: Acts as a liaison between the PTO and the parents and teachers in grade 2. To all 2nd grade families, my name is Kelly Edwards, and I am the 2nd grade PTO representative. I will be contacting you throughout the school year to either volunteer your time for 2nd grade sponsored events, to bring in baked goods for the bake sale in January, food items for teacher lunches, and various other things as the school year gets started. I am looking forward to a great 2010-2011 school year!

Grade 5 Representative: Acts as a liaison between the PTO and the parents and teachers in grade 5. Greetings to all 5th grade families, my name is Amy Hagerman and I have the privilege to be this year’s 5th grade PTO representative. 5th grade is an exciting year for our students, since they are the oldest on campus and are about to transition into middle school. There will be plenty of volunteer opportunities to make this year a very special one for our students. Just to name a few, in August, 5th grade will help support a teachers’ breakfast and Student Prep Day, in October, 5th grade will have their bake sale and in February Valentine Day Grams will be sold to help support the 5th grade Ski Trip. I am excited about the upcoming 2010-2011 school year and look forward to working with all 5th grade RMCA students and their families! Please feel free to contact me.
Holiday Gift Shop: This is a service provided to the families and students of RMCA. It allows for students to experience the excitement of giving gifts to loved ones during the Holiday season. The holiday shop will be held on November 29-December 2. Mrs. Claus should be there again and great items from Fun Services are even better than last year! We will need plenty of volunteers on a daily basis.
Marquee: Updates the marquee weekly with upcoming events.
Membership: Collects and sorts general membership and business membership forms and also notifies members of upcoming PTO meetings.
New Knights: New Knights is for any new family attending RMCA. This is the place where you can come and learn about the happenings at school. Being a new family can be stressful, having someone to call may help. We are here to answer questions or point you toward any help you may need. It is our hope that you will come to love our school as much as we do. Contact LaChon Smith.
Newsletter: Collects information in order to produce the monthly PTO newsletter.
Parents for Teachers Day: Parents have a monthly opportunity to help teachers copy, create and cut!
Pizza Friday: Every Friday the RMCA PTO is offering Papa John's pizza as a lunch option. The students may choose from cheese or pepperoni. The cost is $1 a slice. Your student may bring cash or purchase a pizza card for $20. The cards will be passed out by their teacher before recess. No drinks will be available at this time. The pizza cards from the 2009-2010 school year will carry over to this year. You may check the balance of your pizza card during Student Prep Day, August 16th, from 8am-4pm. Additional cards may be purchased at this time. The first pizza day is Friday, August 20th.
Popcorn Wednesday: Each bag is 25 cents and so long as there is school on Wednesday there will be Popcorn for sale during recess!!! The first popcorn Wednesday is the first day of school, August 18th! In honor of the new school year, popcorn will be FREE on this day!
Playground: In charge of improving our playground!
Publicity: Provides local media with news leads regarding RMCA events.
Pumpkin Parch: Creates RMCA’s own pumpkin patch. Students enjoy a hay ride, popcorn, cider and picking out a pumpkin!
Reading Rewards: Reading at home is a very important part of your child's education. We will be promoting and rewarding your children for achieving this reading goal. Each month we will be sending home a reading log that will need to be signed by one parent and returned to their teacher by the assigned date. The student must read a total of 20 minutes, 20 plus days a month. If your student completes and returns the log each month a reward will be given. If your child returns their completed log all 8 months they will be able to attend a pizza party held at the end of the year. So please watch for the reading logs and encourage your child to read. School Directory: Parents provide information to be included in our school directory. Email or hardcopy revisions will be available.
School Supplies: Pre-order supplies can be purchased for the following school year beginning in the spring. 13% of the profit goes back to our teachers!
Spirit Nights: Our monthly fundraiser at a local restaurant. Come eat and spend time with RMCA families and teachers!
Spirit Wear and Gear: Show your pride for RMCA! Order forms will be sent home throughout the year.
Student Achievement: Students on Honor Roll or the Principal’s list will receive a certificate and prize!
Teacher Appreciation: This committee organizes potlucks and monthly ways to show our teachers and staff how much we appreciate them!
Uniform Exchange: We all know that trying to keep our rapidly growing students dressed for school can be expensive. We will be offering a sell and buy program through the monthly PTO Newsletter. We will have a list of used uniforms that parents want to sell. You may place your gently used approved uniforms on this list for the school year or until they sell. Volunteer Coordinator: organizes and coordinates our volunteers!
Yearbook: Works with a select group of 4th and 5th graders to create RMCA’s full color and hardback yearbook!
