Overview

Our Kindergarten team welcomes early learners to a curriculum rich environment that promotes the learning of foundational skills that will launch them into a lifelong love of learning. In the classroom, students learn and practice phonics and literacy skills as well as hands-on math activities. Their learning is complemented by activities and a field trip to Wishing Star Farm which supplements the topics they learn about in the Core Knowledge Sequence.

Language Arts: Read-Alouds, Comprehension and Discussion
Reading: Phonics, Oral Reading and Fluency
Writing: Handwriting & Spelling, Parts of Speech & Sentence Structure, Capitalization & Punctuation
World History and Geography: Overview of the Seven Continents
American History: Native American Peoples, The Voyage of Columbus, The Pilgrims, “Independence Day”, Presidents
Mathematics: Counting and Cardinality, Operations and Algebraic Thinking, Number and Operations in Base Ten, Measurement and Data

As well as Mother Goose and Other Traditional Poems, Sayings and Phrases, Visual Arts, and Music

The Core Knowledge Sequence is a detailed outline of specific content and skills to be taught in language arts, history, geography, mathematics, science, and the fine arts. As the core of a school’s curriculum, it is intended to provide a coherent, content specific foundation of learning, while allowing flexibility to meet local needs.

Hi! My name is Madelyne Kirk and I started at RMCA in 2022. I was born and raised in Winterset, Iowa, but decided to make the move to Colorado after graduating from Iowa State University. I enjoy going hiking, boating, camping and kayaking on the weekends with my Australian Shepard and husband. I love to learn, read, and teach and I am so excited to start another year at RMCA with my kindergartners!

Aubra McReynolds

Hi! My name is Aubra McReynolds and I am very excited to be teaching Kindergarten this year! Though I taught preschool for around 15 years, 6 of which were here at RMCA Preschool, this is my first year teaching Kindergarten. I received my Bachelors through UCCS and my Masters through UC Denver. In my spare time, I enjoy creating art, putting puzzles together, listening to music, lifting weights, watching sports (I’m a big Duke Blue Devils fan), and spending time with friends and family. I am looking forward to all that is in store for this school year!

Celeste Francione

Hello! My name is Celeste Francione and this will be my twelfth year in education and my tenth year teaching kindergarten at RMCA! I absolutely love it. I was born in Illinois, but I have lived in Colorado since I was in mid-kindergarten. I have a degree in Elementary Education from Emmaus Bible College in Dubuque, Iowa. I love elephants, purple, Pepsi, chocolate, crafting, helping at church, animals, exploring new places, reading, and teaching. I love getting to know my kiddos and their families. Kindergarten is so much fun and they grow so much throughout the year! Looking forward to a wonderful year!

Kasey Taylor

Hello! My name is Kasey Taylor and I am excited to start another year with RMCA as a Kindergarten teacher! I fell in love with RMCA and the Kindergarten team in the Spring of 2022 when I had the opportunity to be a long-term substitute for a Kindergarten class. I love the school culture, the students and the staff and am so excited to be a part of this family! My husband and I moved to Colorado Springs in 2018 and love it here. We were happy to trade the hurricanes and flooding of the Gulf Coast with the wonderful Colorado weather. Working with children is my passion and I've also taught children's dance classes since 2008! Kindergarten has always been my favorite age group and I can't wait to help my students learn and grow this year!

Hello, my name is Shannon St.John and I am so excited to be a part of the RMCA family! I moved to Colorado in 1994 and after attending college out-of-state, I decided to move back to this glorious state in 2000! I have a BS in Community and Commercial Recreation and working with children has always been a passion of mine! My husband and I married in 2011 and have 2 amazing sons, who also attend RMCA. I love coffee, cooking, crafting and most of all spending quality time with my family!
